Mixed bag for Angel City

Angel City still has hopes for it first Santa Monica 7s league title going into the last week of play. But a mixed bag of results ensured at least one of the three squads will finish no better than second.

The day started with a huge 5-3 win for Angel City FC against current Setanta league leaders the BH Allstars. On the back of great goaltending from Peter Marlenga, Angel City outplayed the Allstars -- who notched an 8-1 win earlier in the season. Tied 2-2 at the half, Angel City outscored and outgritted the Allstars 3-1 in the second to take the necessary win. Tiit Tikenberg led the scoring charge with a hat trick and two assists, while Ivan O'Neil and David Woirhaye added singles. For Angel City to win the title the BH Allstars must drop points next week and the blues must win against Esbjerg FC.

ACFC did not fare as well in their Santiago league title battle with the Swamp Donkeys -- who they beat last week, losing a tight 4-3 match to Slutty Buffalos 2 to fall back into second place again. Mike Sharp netted a brace while Tikenberg added another single to his day's total. But missed goal chances caught up with the squad as did a few soft goals.

The third match saw the AC Allstars record rise to 7 wins and 2 losses, when their competition, Del Rey United, failed to show up. The default was recorded as a 3-0 win leaving the squad 1 point behind Sevilla league leaders Slutty Buffalos 1. A win next week against that side by two goals or more will give the Allstars the league title.

The AC Allstars, ACFC and Angel City FC return to play next Saturday with games at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 AM. This will be the last game of the season, with all three squads returning in June for summer league action.

Times and fields will be available on the team's website Fixtures page later this week.
