Angel City drops first loss of season

It started on a high with Brandon Cole knocking in a pass from Matthew McCallum just a minute into Angel City's first matchup with the Blue Eagles April 7.

But a sloppy first half and poor finishing in the second cost ACFC the game. The Eagles took advantage of space outside the box to net three goals off ranged shots at the nine-, 15- and 26-minute marks of the match, leaving Angel City against a wall for the remainder of the game. Amid heavy rainfall, ACFC dominated second half play, limiting the Blue Eagles scoring opportunites and producing numerous chances on goal. But luck was not on the the Angels' side. The score finished 3-1.

Angel City still tops the Division C tables, two points above the Blue Eagles with a record of 11 wins a loss and a tie for 34 points. Only one game is left in the regular season against Zig Zag Jaro, April 14 at John Ferraro. A win will guarantee Angel City the top seed (playing the fourth place team) in semi-finals set for Griffith Park on April 21. A tie or loss will see ACFC face off against the third place team. The finals and consolation match are set for April 28, also at Griffith Park.

  1. It's too bad the loss had to come the way it did. Good thing we'll beat them in the league championship!
