Angel City took a hard-fought 1-1 draw against divisional rivals Silverlagos in a pre-season friendly Tuesday night at the Griffith Park Turf field.
ACFC dominated the first half with a tight checking game, plenty of chances and a lone goal by Sheldon Mitchell. The second half saw more chances on goal, but the team failed to capitalize. The Silverlagos netted their tying goal late in the second half when a shot from outside the box hit a post and landed in front of two unmarked forwards who tapped the ball past keeper Ben Kull. Overall the team had a strong defensive effort and great goalkeeping by Kull. The midfield managed to shutdown the Silverlagos passing game for much of the match. But with the season fast approaching, the team now looks to finishing off its chances in the goal mouth.
ACFC's first game of the 2009 30+ season will be Tuesday, January 13 at John Ferraro Soccer Park (field #6) against C-Division champs FC Perya. Kickoff is 8:25 PM.
"This will be one of our hardest games of the year and it's very important to take points off them," said ACFC Manager Ben Kull. "We've worked hard this off season. We're playing very well. And I expect us to win."
This will be Angel City's first match against FC Perya as the squad was in a different division last season.
ACFC have an inter-team friendly Saturday (10 AM) at Playa Vista and a skills training practice Monday night at the Santa Monica Airport starting at 8:30 PM.

Wow, thanks for the compliment. I guess I get up for real games.
ReplyDeleteHopefully I won't ever have to play in one again. At least in goal.
Good luck on Tuesday. Those guys won't know what hit them.
