ACFC starts season with a convincing win

Angel City FC kicked off the 2009 LA Municipal Soccer League 11s season on a high note, taking down FC Perya 5-1 at the John Ferraro Soccer fields Tuesday night.

The squad dominated the first half against the older and slower Perya side, but failed to capitalize on several chances in front of goal. Perya seemed content to defend and kick long balls up the field in the hopes of creating a lucky chance. But the ACFC defence kept them at bay under sweeper Kirby Adams.

In the second half ACFC came alive scoring five consecutive goals. Brandon Cole notched a pair, Russ Muratov knocked in two and added an assist, and David Woirhaye took a goal and an assist. Matt Onheiber and Ben O'Meara each collected an assist.

The half saw better passing and a calmer style of play from ACFC, who held on to the shutout until the very last play of the game, when an errant pass in the backfield ended up on an opponents foot. For most of the second half Perya simply ran out of steam.

ACFC play the Sentinels next Tuesday, Jan. 20 at John Ferraro, with an early 6:30 PM kickoff.

  1. Thanks for the write up, Rahoul. It was a great win. However, our opponent was not even close to our level. Last season there were much better teams in our league. Tougher games are yet to come.

Regardless, I was very impressed with our play. Keep it up.
