Angel City closes summer SMASL 7s with two 2nds and a 3rd

Aug. 18, 2012: Angel City ended the SMASL Summer 7s season Saturday with two wins and a loss.

ACFC improved its record to 6-1-3 with a 4-1 win over Trenchtown and finished 2nd in Setanta; Angel City FC finished 2nd in Sevilla at 7-0-2 with a 5-2 win over Barney's FC; and the AC Allstars fell 8-6 to Del Rey to close out the season at 5-1-4 and third in Santiago.

SMASL 7s action returns this fall at Santa Monica High with games starting in mid-September.

KULL STEPS DOWN AS ANGEL CITY MANAGER

In other news, longtime Angel City FC manager Ben Kull stepped down from his administrative duties after five successful years to concentrate all his efforts on his career.

Angel City FC was formed by the surviving members of a proud, scrappy collection of renegades known as the Shockers in the summer of 2008.

THE SHOCKING START

Armed with a pile of pink and black t-shirts and a bold logo, the Los Angeles incarnation of the Shockers was established by Matt Onheiber and Jonny Ibanez in the mid-2000s..

The team raced to immediate success, finishing third in the ASLSGV.  But like many top class teams, the Shockers suffered from growing pains and were never able to repeat their success in the full field LA Municipal League.

As Onheiber moved on to the dangerous world of animation direction and Ibanez immersed himself in the darkness of the bar exam, the reins of the team were passed to the only man with enough free time to do the job.

ANGEL CITY IS BORN

A man of small stature and big ego, Ben Kull decided that the team must either grow or die.  He immediately recruited 40 players, hired a coach and entered three teams in two leagues, re-branding the team as Angel City FC.

Sporting a new logo and light blue and black uniforms, the ACFC over-30s played in the 11-a-side Los Angeles Municipal League for several seasons winning one league championship before moving to the LA Premier League.

7 v 7 action at the Santa Monica Airport fields has featured three Angel City squads for Saturday morning action since 2008, squads which have won division titles on six separate occasions.

And, under Kull's tutelage,  the club organized the Angel City Soccer League -- with the help of sponsors Niky's Sports -- during the adult soccer downtimes from April to June and September to December, hosting 12 teams for 7s action at Playa Vista for six exciting seasons.

This past year, ACFC even entered a squad in the competitive open mens SMASL 11s Sunday league, with the squad finishing fifth out of 12 teams.

The club wishes Kull all the best in his career endeavors and looks forward to seeing him enjoy more field time as a player.  Thanks for your efforts, hard work and commitment to the team.

Angel City drops three

July 28, 2012: Angel City dropped three losses in SMASL Summer 7s action Saturday.

In Setanta, ACFC (3-1-3) fell 7-4 to Moss Adams FC, despite a strong 4-2 second half showing, with Ciaran Howell and Freddie De Leon each picking up a brace. The first half saw ACFC dropping five goals, a majority on defensive errors. The match also saw the departure of Grieg Richardson, who moves on to greener work pastures abroad in Asia.  Richardson notched a brace in the squad's previous match against Malibu United.

In Sevilla Division play, Angel City FC lost their second SUDAMERICA match-up 6-3, pretty much crushing any hopes of a title this season ... Tobias notched a brace while Ciaran Howell earned his third goal on the day. The team now sits at 5-0-2.

And in Santiago Division action, the AC Allstars fell 2-0 to the Foot Soldiers, dropping the teams record to 4-1-2.

Angel City 7s take another two wins

July 7, 2012: Angel City took two wins and a loss in SMASL Summer 7s action July 7. Despite a strong first half, which saw the team down only by a goal (4-3), ACFC dropped its first loss of the season, 9-4 to That's What She Said, who now move into a first-place tie with Malibu United in the Setanta Division ... both with three wins and a loss. ACFC drop to second with a 2-1-1 record. Brad Miller, John Paul Meyer, Kevin Binder and Freddie De Leon scored for ACFC.

Angel City FC, in contrast, continued their strong run with a 6-1 win over Three One O, keeping the squad in second place behind SUDAMERICA in the Sevilla Division with a 3-0-1 record. Tahar Betbout scored four times, with Craig Blois adding a brace.

The AC Allstars capped the morning with a 7-4 win over Los Blancos, to move up to second place in the Santiago Division with a 2-1-1 record. Goal scorers included: Scott Hernandez (2), Matt Onheiber (2), Luis Deveze, David Woirhaye and Craig Blois.

Angel City: two wins and a loss in 7s

The Angel City 7s roared back this week to two convincing wins, with ACFC stomping on McDermott 12-3 and Angel City FC routing La Masia 6-1.

ACFC, now sporting two wins and a tie, started their McDermott match slowly but built up a strong passing game which eventually yielded high stakes.  With a win never really in doubt, the squad notched 12 goals (Angel Matos (4), Ciaran Howell (2), Francisco Vercher (2), JD Jurentkuff (2), Grieg Richardson, Freddie De Leon) to McDermott's three.  The win was gratifying after the squad's dismal 1-0 loss to the team last season.

Angel City FC (2-0-1) continued the success with a 6-1 win over La Masia, a match where goal-scoring and great keeping from Logan Redlin were in equal supply.  Scorers included Francisco Vercher (PK), Zac Blois (2), Nick Manocelis, Dorian Cervantes and Jonathan McCormick.

Despite a second half surge, the AC Allstars (1-1-1) were not as successful, losing a tight match 5-3 to a solid Marvista SSS Yashin. Francisco Vercher, Jonathan McCormick and Luis Deveze scored for the home side.

Angel City posts two ties and loss in 7s

Angel City finished off a hard second week of SMASL Summer 7s action with two ties and a loss, June 23.

ACFC earned a point with a 3-3 tie against Moss Adams FC after being up 2-0 at the half off goals from Matt Marshall and Brad Miller.  Moss Adams came back with three goals, but a late Marshall goal earned the squad a tie, leaving them with 4 points in the Setanta Division.

AC Allstars also finished up 3-3 against the Foot Soldiers during Santiago Division play with takes by Ciaran Howell, Jonny Ibanez and Ben O'Meara. The Allstars are also on a win and a tie.

Angel City FC dropped their first loss of the season 5-2 to SUDAMERICA with Brandon Cole and David Woirhaye scoring.

Angel City posts trio of 7s wins on opening day

Angel City kicked off SMASL 7s Summer action with a trio of inspired wins, Saturday at the Santa Monica Airport fields..

ACFC started the day off with a hard-fought 6-4 win over Malibu United, who topped the Angel City Soccer League two weeks ago with a cup win.

Angel City teams have been notoriously slow starters in the past, particularly when an early match time is involved. But striker Angel Matos quickly set the standard for the day by stealing back a ball  within the first four minutes and slotting a slicing shot past the Malibu keeper.

Play was back and forth between the two evenly matched teams, but ACFC's scoring success -- including a hat-trick from Mike Silva and a brace from Matt Marshall -- and their defensive prowess held back a strong effort from Malibu.  Marshall's first strike was impressive, involving three successive headers past defenders and then a chip past a sprawling keeper. ACFC Keeper Juan Ortiz had a strong match.

ACFC next sees action against Moss Adams FC June 23 at 11:30 AM.

Angel City FC continued the opening day streak with a come-from-behind 7-5 win over FC Montalban. Behind at several points during the match, Angel City never gave up, slowly reeling in the win despite a few missed goal-scoring opps.

Tahar Betbout topped the score sheet with four goals, while David Woirhaye, Sammy Xaylitdet and Craig Blois added singles.

Angel City FC next see action against a tough SUDAMERICA squad June 23 at 12:30 PM.

Finally, the AC Allstars capped the afternoon with a convincing 6-1 win over the LA Suns.  Yuri and Scott Hernandez each capped a brace, while Ian Worrel and Mike Gemballa added singles on the day. Keeper Christian Olde Wolbers made several key saves in each of the final two matches.

The Allstars play the Foot Soldiers next Saturday with a 1:30 PM kickoff.

Malibu United take second ACSL Cup

Malibu United rallied from an early 1-0 first-half deficit to win 3-1 over Serie A Division winners LA Plushdamentals in the ACSL Cup final Saturday evening in Playa Vista.

The LA Plushdamental's Robbie MacDonald scored around the 10-minute mark off a counterattack, but United's Damon Manak notched two goals on either side of the halftime break off a pair of cracking shots.

And Devan Myers sealed the victory with a breakaway goal about 10 minutes from time. Manak narrowly missed earning a hat-trick ... after being taken out in the box, his PK attempt was saved by the Plushdamentals guest keeper, Logan Redlin, who made several key saves throughout the final to keep the game close.

Both teams played three consecutive games and were feeling the pain during the finals.

The LA Plushdamentals  road to the final included tough victories against ACFC (3-1) and the Slutty Buffalos (6-5).  In the semis the team fought back from a 5-2 deficit and the expulsion of their goalie on a double yellow card to win against the Buffalos.

Malibu United knocked off Real Talk 6-3 in the quarter-finals and revenged two regular season EPL losses -- 8-4 and 6-3 -- to Angel City FC, with a convincing 5-0 semis victory.

United, also winners in Spring 2010, are the first team to win the ACSL Cup title twice.

In the consolation final the Slutty Buffalos -- the Serie A Division winners -- knocked off EPL Division winners Angel City FC 7-6.

ACSL Week 6

Despite some last week losses, two of the three Angel City squads have qualified for the Cup round next week at Playa Vista.

Angel City FC topped the EPL and the league with a record of five wins and a tie to take the No. 1 seed and bye to the semis.  Angel City will face the winner of a match between Malibu United and Real Talk in the second round of playoffs.

The squad finished up the season on a quiet note, taking a 3-0 default win over Mr Snuggleton FC, who for the second week in a row could not field a team.

Malibu United earned its fourth win of the season with a 6-2 win over TWSS to take second place in the EPL.

Meanwhile a seemingly tired ACFC dropped an 11-2 (Mathieu, 2) decision to the Slutty Buffalos, knocking them into second place in La Liga behind the Buffalos, who also earned a bye into the semis. ACFC will face Serie A winner LA Plushdamentals in the quarter finals, the winner of which will play the Buffalos in the semis.

The Swamp Donkeys finished third in La Liga also ending the season with a 3-0 default win against Trenchtown United, a squad which missed three of their six matches.

La Plushdamentals capped their first ACSL season with a 2-1 win over the One Touch Stars to top Serie A.  Real Talk earned second place with a 7-3 win over the AC Allstars, who finished up third.  Allstars goals were netted by Jonny Ibanez and Brandon Cole (2).

See you next week for Cup Round play with matches at 4 PM, 5 PM and 6 PM.

ACSL Round 5

Angel City posted a trio of wins during round 5 of the ACSL Saturday at Playa Vista.

Angel City FC took the EPL title a week early with a 4-2 win over That's What She Said.  A hat-trick from T and a single from DW, lifted the squad's record to four wins and a tie for 13 points. Malibu United sit in second with a week to go ... on nine points, having collected three points this week from a default by Mr Snuggleton.  Any points by Angel City next week in their matchup with Mr Snuggleton would also hand the squad the top seed for Cup action June 2.

In La Liga action ACFC also secured a playoff spot with a default win -- 3-0 -- over Trenchtown United. ACFC are tied on 10 points now with the Slutty Buffalos, with both teams now out of reach of the third place Swamp Donkeys (on 6) and Trenchtown United with just a single point.  The Buffalos and Donkeys agreed to a 0-0 result this week after neither could field a squad.  Next week ACFC and the Buffalos will face off for the La Liga title and first and second place.

In Serie A the AC Allstars racked up their best win of the season -- 8-2 over an undermanned LA Plushdamentals.

DW scored a brace, Brandon Cole a hat-trick and Rahoul Ghose, Kevin and Ben Kull all added singles.

The win leaves the squad one point out of second place behind Real Talk, who beat the One Touch Allstars 9-4. Real Talk and the Allstars play in the final week for the second playoff spot in Serie A.

LA Plushdamentals, now on 10 points, would seem to have things wrapped up, but if they drop points anything is possible. If they lose and the Allstars win, the Plushdamentals would be eliminated on head-to-head GD and the Allstars would take the Serie A title.

ACSL Round 4

Angel City suffered mixed results on Saturday during Round 4 ACSL 7s action at Playa Vista.

Angel City FC started the day strongly, coming back from an early deficit to take their second win of the season against an always strong Malibu United, 6-3.  The win leaves the squad four points up on Malibu in the EPL (with three wins and a tie), needing only one more win to capture the division title.
That's What She said posted their first win on the season in the other EPL match-up, 6-3 against Mr. Snuggleton.

ACFC dropped a close 4-3 result to the Swamp Donkeys in La Liga action, having tied them 5-5 on opening day. Despite the loss ACFC remain in second place on 7 points with two games to go in the regular season topped only by the Slutty Buffalos (on 9 points), who trashed a make-piece Trenchtown United 8-1. The Donkeys have 5 points, followed by Trenchtown with 4 ... so the top two playoff spots remain open to anyone.

The final match saw a dilapidated AC Allstars, with one sub and no regular keeper, hand the One Touch Stars their first win of the season 7-4.  Sloppy keeping in the first half saw the squad down 3-1 at the half.  In the second 45 the Allstars did mount a valiant effort, but losing their lone sub to injury left the team out-manned by the 14-player One Touch side. Many of the Allstars were on their third game.

The loss sees the Allstars remaining in third spot, behind LA Plushdamentals and Real Talk, who drew 4-4 on the day.  The LA Pushdamentals, on 10 points, have more than likely sealed the Serie A title and a spot in the playoffs.  But only a single point separates the bottom three in the race for the second spot berth.

Meanwhile in LA Premier League action Saturday, Angel City dropped their sixth loss of the season, 3-0 to Valhalla.  The 3 PM kickoff time on Saturday at West LA College, definitely proved detrimental to the Allstars 7s roster.

A win, a tie and a loss for Angel City

Angel City posted a win, a tie and a loss during ACSL 7s action at Playa Vista Saturday.

The AC Allstars kicked off the day with a 6-2 loss to the Dan Ferris Team with Dylan Dewey recording a brace. Real Talk clobbered the One Touch Stars 9-1 in the other Serie A match.

In EPL play, Angel City FC remained unbeaten over two weeks posting a hard-fought 1-1 tie with That's What She Said, while Malibu United wreaked revenge for their Week 1 loss, tearing up a sad Mr. Snuggleton 8-1.

And in La Liga action, ACFC recorded a 3-0 default win against Trenchtown United while the Slutty Buffalos took an undermanned Swamp Donkeys to town 10-3.

The ACSL now takes a week off before returning for Week 3 matches May 5.

Angel City post two wins and a tie in ACSL action

Angel City posted a successful first week in ACSL action Saturday at Playa Vista, racking up two wins and a tie.

Angel City FC kicked off the day earning a hard-fought victory over a tough Malibu United side 8-4 in the EPL. David Woirhaye scored a hat trick with his deft touch in front of goal, while Matt M. and Kevin notched braces. Tahar added a single to the tally, the first Angel City strike in the match.

Mr Snuggleton FC (formerly Typhoon FC) topped That's What She Said in the other EPL match, 5-3, leaving Angel City top of the tables (on goal differential) after the first of six weeks ... but it's early times yet.

ACFC then took on the Swamp Donkeys in a fast-paced, end-to-end La Liga match which could have gone either way.  Miguel, Matt M., DW, Mathieu and Brad each scored for the home side in the 5-5 draw, leaving the team tied for second with the Donkeys, behind the Slutty Buffalos, who toppled Trenchtown United 4-3.

The AC Allstars capped the day with a seemingly easy 8-1 win over Serie A league newcomers, the One Touch Stars. Mike Gemballa led the charge with an impressive four-goal effort -- many of them off passes from Volkert Besseling -- while Ben Kull, Besseling, JP and Kevin added singles.

The Dan Ferris Team knocked off Real Talk, 7-5, in the other Serie A match.

RULES

The rules of play will be the same as the rules at Santa Monica Airport.  The only difference is that your subs do not have to stand next to the goal.  Players may stand on the side of the field if they choose.

Like Santa Monica League, games will be 50 minutes with a three-minute halftime.  There will be no off-sides.  No slide tackling.  Free substitutions.  Two-minute penalty for yellow cards.  Immediate expulsion for red cards.

All league rules can be found here: http://angelcityfc.com/acsl/rules.asp
In the standing, like the SMASL, teams tied on points will be seeded first by head-to-head results, then goal differential.

ROSTER FORMS

We do not require ID cards.  We do require that every team keeps their roster on file with the league. Whenever you have a new player join the team, that player needs to sign the roster.  Returning teams will find their roster forms from past seasons at the league table (west of the field).  Please pick it up before the game, have any new players sign and return the form to the table before your game.

New teams can find blank roster forms here: http://angelcityfc.com/acsl/forms/acsl_team_waiver.pdf

We will also have forms for you at the league table (west of field, under the tree, near the playground).  Please have your players sign the form and bring it to the league table before your game.

REFEREES

To avoid conflict of interest, I will not have any role in choosing the refs.  The refs will be provided by Rolando Marchis, the manager of the Santa Monica League.  You will recognize most of the refs from Santa Monica Airport.

The refs are not perfect, but we've found them to be very fair in the past.  If, however, you have a complaint about one of the refs or if you'd just like to comment on a ref's performance, you can find an evaluation form here: http://angelcityfc.com/acsl/forms/CAFLAreferee.pdf

If you decide to fill out one of the forms, you can give it to me and I will get it to Rolando.

CONDUCT

Our league is made up of teams that have known each other and played together for many years. We're competitive, but we are also friends.  I'm proud of the community that's grown from our league.

We can't control all of our players all the time.  Problems will happen occasionally, but generally we expect our players to treat each other and the refs with respect.

Players receiving red cards will serve a mandatory one game suspension and based on the recommendation of the ref, there may be an extended ban for very serious problems.

QUESTIONS/PROBLEMS

I'll be at the field for most of the games.  You can find me on the west side of the field, near the league table.  Feel free to come over if you have any questions or concerns, or just to say hello.

You may also email me or call/text my cell phone at 310-804-2873.

If you're having trouble fielding a team, please let me know as soon as possible.  I may be able to help you find players or bring in a replacement team for that week as I've done in the past.

FIELD INFORMATION

We're lucky to be able to use the field at Playa Vista.  We divide the field with cones and set it up so that we don't disturb the nearby playground.

Be aware that there are kids close to the field, so please control your language as much as possible.

There will be an area of field behind the South goals where players can warm up.  You may also use the grass on the side of the field to stretch and set up for the game.

Parking is available in the small lot next to the field and also on the street next to field (Bluff Creek Drive)

You can find directions to Playa Vista on this page: http://angelcityfc.com/acsl/fields.asp

I've also Googled directions from Santa Monica Airport to Playa Vista, so you can get a clear idea exactly where the field is located.  Those directions are here: http://g.co/maps/9hyyd

The field is at the intersection of Playa Vista Drive and Bluff Creek Drive.

CONCLUSION

We're very excited to be playing again.  Thanks for all your help.  I'll see you at the field next weekend.

The Angel City Soccer League is setting up for its sixth iteration, the third Spring season to date, with matches scheduled to resume on Saturdays starting April 14 at the Playa Vista Sports Center fields.

No joy in ACFC land

Angel City sputtered with a trio of 7s losses Saturday at the Santa Monica Airport, despite strong lineups in all three matches.

ACFC started the day with a 6-2 loss to Westside Property in the Socrates Division and dropped to 1-1-3.

Then a 3-0-0 Angel City FC faced off against Sudamerica in a battle for top spot in the Santiago Division.  The squad started strong with a brace from David  Woirhaye and a single from Craig Blois, ending the first half up 3-1.  Then the game went a bit pear-shaped with defensive errors costing the team five unanswered goals despite the goaltending prowess of Logan Redlin between the posts. Angel City FC drop to 3-0-1 and second place going into the second half of the season.

And the AC Allstars, pairing off against bottom-seeded Santorino Division squad McDermott, faced an uphill battle after dropping an early first half goal. Strong goalkeeping from the McDermott keeper, and a complete lack of finishing (including a last minute penalty kick miss) left the Allstars scoreless on the day, leaving the team 1-1-3 at the season midpoint and in need of a win after three straight losses.

As of Sunday the SMASL had not posted the times for next weeks matches.  Info will be available on the ACFC site once the schedule is released.

Angel City takes a pair of wins

Angel City FC upped their record to four straight wins in SMASL Santiago Division action Saturday with a convincing 7-3 win over Three ONE. The squad will face off against a 4-0 Sudamerica next Saturday at 1:30 PM to break the current rankings tie.  This week the squad found themselves down 2-0 early on but once Angel City settled into a flow they scored seven goals courtesy of Craig Blois, DW, Nico, Ben O'Meara (2), Mike Sharp and Mike Silva. Logan Redlin was solid between the posts.

The Angel City Allstars started strong against an always solid Malibu United, tied 3-3 midway through the second half on a brace from Mathieu and a single from Tahar.  But the game went sideways after several dubious passes cost the squad three more goals before the final whistle. The Allstars' record drops to a win, a tie and two losses in the Santorino Division.

ACFC brought the day back with a satisfying 6-2 win over Marvista Yashin in the Socrates Division, with Yuri scoring a hat-trick, Brad a brace and Mark a single.  But it was keeper Christian Olde Wolbers who stole the show, recording at least 15 saves, most spectacular, on the day. ACFC now sit at 1-1-2.

Angel City rescues one win

Angel City FC rescued a hard weekend for the 7s squads, extending the team's winning streak to three with a 3-1 win over Del Rey City, courtesy of a brace from David Woirhaye and a single from Cedric.

Earlier in the day the club lost a pair of games which just seemed to get away from the squads.

The AC Allstars started strong against a physical Slutty Buffalos side, finding themselves down 1-0 at the half and maintaining some nice ball control early in the second. But a second Buffalos strike in the second, against the run of play, seemed to throw the Allstars completely off their game and the scoreline increased to a sad 6-1 loss. Scott earned the lone tally, to save some face. The team now has a win, a tie and a loss.

ACFC started slow, going down 2-0 against the Del Rey City Argonauts, but came within a goal early in the second at 3-2, with a brace from Angel Matos.  Again the squad appeared to collapse in the later stages and ACFC suffered their second loss of the season 5-2.  ACFC's record stands at a tie and two losses.

Angel City takes two scappy wins

Brandon "Goin' for the Glory" Cole led the Angel City charge Saturday during Week 2 of SMASL 7s action at the Santa Monica Airport, racking up six goals over two matches ... both games which saw team efforts overcome the odds to take the full three points.

Earning their second win of the season, Angel City FC recovered from an early red-card, and a back-and-forth scoreline while playing a man short, to beat La Masia 5-4.

Less than 15 minutes into the match, Angel City found themselves permanently down a man when Russ Muratov was red-carded for retaliating against a player after being fouled himself.  The ref, as is often the case, missed the first infringement completely.

Cole notched four goals on the game, including the winning PK with minutes left in the match, while Angel Matos added a single.   Angel City FC lies on top of the Santiago Division with six points and a +6 GD.

The weirdness and luck continued in the AC Allstars' Santorino Division match-up against Los Blancos, with both squads getting red-cards, one for a crazy stamp on the Allstars' goalie, who was first knocked down by a crazed striker and then trampled. The Angel City expulsion was for an altercation after the incident, with Luis Deveze being shown the door.

The team made the call to stay at six players a piece at half-time, and the extra space on the field allowed the Allstars to pull away on the scoring front, 7-4, with Jonny Ibanez continuing his goal scoring run this season (with his second brace), Cole adding a pair, Scott and DW with singles, and Michael Sharp squaring away a lofty free kick from outside the box.  The Allstars also remain undefeated to date with a win and a tie, and a GD of +3.

In the club's early game, ACFC lost a close one, 3-2 to the Barrington Destroyers, with Angel Matos and Mark notching singles. ACFC sit at a tie and a loss in the competitive Socrates division.

UNIFORMS

You're required to bring your own uniform each week.  If you have an official Angel City jersey, please wear that.  If you ordered a jersey, you'll be loaned one until your new jersey arrives.  And if this is your first season with the club and you don't want a jersey right now, please wear your own light blue shirt.

We also wear black shorts and black socks.  It isn't mandatory to wear black, but it's preferred.

Shin guards are required.

THE FIELD

All 7's games are played at Santa Monica Airport.  You can find directions to the field here (second one down) ...  http://angelcityfc.com/fields.asp

There is no food or sports drink allowed on the field.  This is very important.  If you're caught with food or sports drink on the field the whole team will forfeit a game.

Water is allowed on the field.

Parking is next to the field (east).  Additional parking is North of the field and also behind the Spitfire Grill (across the Street).

ID CARDS

Every player is required to bring their own Santa Monica Sports ID card and be prepared to show it to the ref if asked.  If you've played in this league before and still have the card, you can use your old ID card.

If you think that I have your ID card, please email me and I'll look for it.

If you don't have an ID card you need to go to the Santa Monica Sports Office and get you photo taken.  They'll give you the card before you leave.  Here's what you need to know about the sports office...
LOCATION:  1401 Olympic Blvd, Santa Monica (CORNER OF 14TH AND OLYMPIC).  Entrance at the back of building, near the skate park.
OFFICE PHONE: 310.458.2201 ext 2020
HOURS:  4 to 8 pm, M-F,  Saturday and Sunday, 2 to 8 pm

When you go in you'll need to fill out a release form.  You'll need to include your team name (see below for team assignments).  You'll need to put my name as Manager (Ben Kull).  If they give you a hard time, feel free to call me at 310-804-2873 and I'll straighten it out.  Do not leave the office without an ID card.  You will not be allowed to play without one.

SCHEDULES

The league doesn't post the entire season's schedule at once.  However, when they do update the schedule, Rahoul adds it to our website...  www.angelcityfc.com

You can also find schedules, standings and other information at the league website...  http://www.eteamz.com/SantaMonicaAdultSoccer/

WEEKLY INVITATIONS

Every week I'll send you an email inviting you to that week's game.  You must reply to the email by Thursday at 6pm of that same week if you want to play on Saturday.  If I haven't heard from you by 6pm Thursday, I will replace you on the roster.  You don't need to reply if you can't play, but I appreciate it if you do.

YOUR STAFF

The guys who manage this club are volunteers.  Please keep that in mind and try to make their jobs as easy as possible.

Pete Wasek - is our Chief Financial Officer.  He handles payments from the more than 60 players in the club and takes care of all our finances.   It's a big job and Pete's very good at it.  Please don't make him chase you for money.  Any money we collect goes directly to league fees.  And every team receives money from the club's cash reserves to help keep costs down.  If you have not paid your $75 league fee, please contact Pete (mpwasek@yahoo.com).

Rahoul Ghose - runs our website.  He keeps the site updated with schedules and standings and often writes a blog with game recaps and other information.  If you're wondering about any club information, please check the website before coming directly to us.  www.angelcityfc.com

Ben Kull - I'll be managing all three 7s teams.  When I'm at the field I'll do my best to organize things and run subs.  However, I'd like for us to get to the point where each team can handle it's own substitutions.  So each team will have designated captains who will be prepared to lead the team when I'm gone.

Because our club is run in a professional way, it's easy to forget that this is not our job.  We do this because it's fun and because we like being part of a club that we're proud of.   I don't mind if you have ideas or comments about how things are going.  But please don't tell me to do stuff for you.  If you want something changed or done differently, please start by offering to do it yourself.  If you do that, I'll be happy to help.  For example, rather than telling me the balls need air, it's better to ask for the air pump and fill them yourself.  You get the picture.

GAME DAY

Please try to arrive early enough to warm up before the game.  Arriving 30 minutes before game time is best.

Our first game is Saturday, January 28.  I'll send out an email early next week with an invitation to the game, but if you'd like to find your game time, you can check our website. Thanks for reading and for joining the club.  Should be a lot of fun.
