Angel City faces mixed bag of weather ... results

Angel City 7s squad faced a mixed bag of weather and results Saturday at the Santa Monica Airport.

ACFC kicked off the day under showers facing a tough Matador FC squad in a back-and-forth match which saw both sides leading at some point. Marius Sandvik led the side with a hat-trick, while David Woirhaye and Ben Kull added singles. Kull's tally game minutes before the final whistle to tie the match 5-5.

As the rains subsided Angel City FC faced an even harder prospect in the Dinosours of Reggae and quickly found themselves down 5-1 at the half. Several goals came off initial keeper saves which weren't cleared in time by the defence or mid-field. Angel City came on strong in the second half to try and tie the match, notching two goals and allowing none. But the squad couldn't recover from the first half deficit and fell 5-3. Craig Nichols scored a brace while Woirhaye added his second single of the day. The team showed a lot of spirit.

Under sunshine, the third match saw the AC Allstars facing what looked to be a tough MT United side, one of the four squads tied for first place in the Santiago division. But despite dropping an early goal when the defense failed to pick up a striker in the box, the Allstars took control of the initially physical game. Up 3-1 at the half off goals from Pete Wasek, John Gillen and Michael Gemballa, the Allstars added five unanswered goals in the second to finish out the day 8-1. Gillen added another pair, Wasek a single, Nichols a single and Volkert Besseling a lone tally.

The Allstars, with three wins and a loss, are now tied with two other squads for first place in the Santiago division -- FC Montalban and That's What She Said -- but the side narrowly has the best goal differential (+16).

Angel City FC, with three wins and a loss in the Sevilla Division, are tied for first with Del Rey United and the Dinosours of Reggae but also have a slightly better GD (+19)

ACFC remains undefeated in the Setanta Division with three wins and a tie, and are tops with a two-point lead over their nearest rivals, Matador FC.

ACFC teams return to play March 6 with only one match left before mid-season.
